Here are some F.A.Q. that might help you

Hypnotherapy

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a talking therapy that  uses hypnosis to find solutions to a client’s unwanted habits and feelings. Hypnosis is a natural state of focus and relaxation which is  similar to daydreaming.

Can anyone be hypnotised?

Yes, pretty much anyone can be hypnotized to some level but some people are naturally better subjects than others.   To get good results from hypnotherapy you must be fully committed to the process

Is it safe?

Hypnotherapy is a safe and natural practice with no harmful side effects.  Hence when administered by a professionally trained and skilled hypnotherapist, the benefits are long lasting and often permanent.

Is Hypnotherapy for children safe?

Hypnotherapy for children and young people is considered highly effective and is completely safe.  As a matter of fact children usually respond  particularly  well to hypnosis as they are naturally imaginative and use their subconscious minds a great deal more than adults do.  Hypnotherapy can help to address a number of issues commonly experienced in childhood including exam nerves, sleep problems, bed-wetting, fears, and eating disorders.

Can you get stuck in hypnosis?

No you cannot get stuck in hypnosis.  You are always in control and if the hypnotherapist were to stop talking you would just re-alert yourself naturally.

What happens during a session?

The session will begin with a detailed discussion of why you are attending for Hypnotherapy.  You will be seated in a comfortable chair and  then guided by me into a deep state of relaxation.   During the relaxing state  you will be in a heightened state of awareness. This is similar to the natural state we experience just before drifting into sleep at night.  You will be fully aware of what is happening  and able to bring the session to an end any time you wish.  It’s not really like sleep, because you will be alert the whole time. It is most often compared to daydreaming, or the feeling of “losing yourself” in a good film or TV programme. You are fully conscious, but you tune out most of the things going on around you.

How many sessions will I need?

The number of sessions you will need will vary from person to person as well as on the issue being treated.  I will be happy to discuss this with you on a free telephone consultation or at the first session you attend.

Is it guaranteed to work?

Hypnotherapy, like almost anything, is never 100% guaranteed to work.  That said, success rates for hypnotherapy are often much higher than success rates for other complimentary therapies and even some medical treatments.

What can Hypnotherapy effectively be used to treat?

Hypnotherapy can be used to treat a wide variety of problems from the more common “quit smoking” or “weight loss” to “, “anxiety issues “, “panic attacks”, “stress”, “addictions”, “confidence”, “sport performance”,  “pain management” …. In addition hypnotherapy can be really effective in treating  “fears and phobias”  Beside the more common “spider phobias”, there are far too many others to name them all but the following lists some examples:

  • Fear of flying
  • Fear of Water
  • Agoraphobia
  • Fear of bees/wasps
  • Fear of dogs or cats
  • Claustrophobia
  • Fear of needles
  • Fear of Surgery or scans

Hypnobirthing

Hypnobirthing in Ayrshire
  • Finding out you pregnant can be a very emotional time.  Along with the joy and excitement comes the fear of the labour, how you will cope?, what kind of birth will you have? and many more questions.  Taking part in a KGHypnobirthing course helps answer those questions and makes sure you are as prepared as you possibly can be for the birth of your baby.
Benefits of Hypnobirthing
  • You are likely to experience a more comfortable and sometimes pain free birth.
  • Your baby will arrive to a serene and relaxed environment, alert and ready to bond with you as nature intended.
  • Length of labour is often much shorter with Hypnobirthing births.
  • Less drugs and medical intervention are used in Hypnobirthing births allowing your baby to develop naturally and easily after they arrive.
  • Mums often bounce back quicker after a Hypnobirthing birth as the physical impact of giving birth is reduced.
  • Your birth partner will learn how to support you and have a central and active role in the birth. A truly shared and loving experience.

The benefits to you are obvious, but there are also long term benefits to your baby.I repeatedly get wonderful birth stories of Hypnobirthing babies being calm, content and sleeping really well. They seem to thrive better. It may seem miraculous but this is how Hypnobirthing is designed to be.

So what is a KGHypnobirthing Course?
  • KGHypnobirthing courses are a full ante natal programme that makes sure you and your birth partner are able to release fear, learn to trust your body, your natural instinct, and your baby.  In order to do this, you need information and knowledge.
Courses
  • As an experienced Hypnotherapist and a qualified KGHypnobirthing teacher I offer face to face sessions as well as occasional group courses.  Face to face sessions are tailored to meet your needs and usually consist of four sessions lasting approximately 2 hours. To book a face to face session or enquire about future group sessions please get in touch.

I also offer a one session PREPARING FOR BIRTH Course for women (and their birth partners) who are worrying about the birth excessively.  Get in touch to find out more.

Online Course
  • If a face to face or group session doesn’t meet your needs, KGHypnobirthing offer an in-depth online course.  You can enjoy learning this in the comfort of your own home at a time that suits you.  The course can be accessed at any stage of pregnancy and you can learn at your own pace.

Bowen

So What is Bowen?

The Bowen Technique is a remedial, hands-on therapy that uses very gentle pressure to treat the whole body, not just the symptoms.   It was developed  in Australia by Thomas Ambrose Bowen (1916-1982).  Tom continued to develop Bowen throughout his life and treated thousands of people right up till his death in 1982

What can Bowen help with?

The following are examples of issues Bowen can help with:

Musculoskeletal issues – Back, neck, knee, ankle pain, sciatica, whiplash, arthritis

Chronic conditions – For example fibromyalgia or rheumatoid arthritis.

Injury prevention – injury prevention in people who exercise regularly

Baby Colic – Bowen has been shown to help with baby colic

Children – growing pains, bedwetting, anger, sleep issues

Pregnancy –  Bowen can help with lower back pain and general discomfort

Stress- Bowen can help with stress and anxiety

Digestive issues – IBS, reflux, indigestion etc.

What happens During the Treatment?

I use my thumbs and fingers on specific points of the body  to perform the rolling-type moves which stimulate the body’s soft tissue.  I don’t use any manipulation or adjustment and no force is used.  During the treatment I leave the room for a few minutes to allow your body to respond to the moves. Bowen prompts the body to reset, repair and balance itself.

PLEASE NOTE: The Bowen Technique is not intended as a substitute for medical advice or treatment. If in doubt please consult your own Doctor.

How many sessions do I need?

Initial treatments are best scheduled about a week apart with a course of 3 usually recommended, although some issues resolve after only one session.  Many  of my regular clients book in for ‘maintenance’ treatments to keep their body functioning at its best, particularly clients who regularly exercise as helps keep them injury free.

Is Bowen safe?

Bowen Therapy has no contra indications and can be used for babies, children and adults of any age.   There is no manipulation of hard tissue and no force applied.

Treatment can be performed directly on the skin or through light clothing if you prefer  through lose clothing.  A t-shirt and loose trousers or shorts (not jeans) are ideal. If you are wearing bulky or heavy items of clothing such as a thick jumper, you will be asked to remove these before the treatment can begin.

How much does it cost?

A single Bowen session costs £40 and last approximately 1 hour.  For babies and children the fee is  £20.  I  also currently offer a package of three sessions for £100 if booked and paid in advance.  I accept cash, card or bank transfer
