As many of you will know by now I’m now offering Bowen Therapy sessions as well as Hypnotherapy and Hypnobirthing.

But what is Bowen?

Bowen is a gentle, non-invasive, whole body treatment, named after the Australian, Tom Bowen who developed this unique system and continued to refine it right up till his death in 1982.  Bowen is now practiced in more than 40 countries across the world and every day is achieving amazing results.

Bowen helps with a variety of conditions from head to toe.  Some examples of conditions Bowen has been seen  to be effective for, include migraines, jaw pain, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel, muscle pain,  sciatica, back pain, knee pain, ankle injuries and stress.  Bowen is also very effective as a preventative treatment for people who exercise regularly, helping them stay injury free.

My interest in Bowen centres around the fact that Bowen encompasses the physical, mental and emotional aspects of health.  The mind/body connection is something that I have been interested in for many years.  I’m also fascinated  with how prolonged stress, anxiety or trauma are at the root cause of many of the conditions that people present with as well as the belief that we can actually influence our health by changing the way we feel.

Results

I’ve personally been very impressed with the results I’ve seen with Bowen.  I myself have had Bowen therapy many times.  I’ve had neck pain for many years, probably due to my poor posture as I’m always reading or bent over a laptop.  I can’t count the times I’ve had physiotherapy, sports massage therapy but the pain persisted.  When I started my Bowen training I had a Bowen treatment myself and my neck pain disappeared!  I’ve also had Bowen recently following a hamstring injury and once again the difference I experienced was amazing.

Feedback

The feedback I’ve been getting from clients has been wonderful and it really makes me feel amazing when I see someone suffering from sciatica for years and getting almost instant relief or someone walking in hunched with pain and walking out inches taller with much less pain.

What to expect in a Bowen session

Sessions last approximately one hour.  Your first session can be a little longer as a full assessment of your issue is discussed.  Two or three sessions usually is enough to help with most issues and I recommend having the sessions one or two weeks between each.    Chronic conditions may take longer than three sessions but this is all discussed at the first session. There is no manipulation or adjustment and there’s no need to remove clothing if you wear loose clothing.  It’s very different from massage but is also very relaxing.  As Bowen is a full body treatment it helps with many different issues so results obviously vary with some people feeling better almost instantly while others respond within  48 hours.

Aftercare

At the end of the session you will be given aftercare instructions which include making sure you drink plenty of water and keep your body moving, avoiding sitting for more than 30 minutes at a time.
